Blogging is hard!

August 16, 2013

Okie dokie, it’s time to try this “blogging” thing again. Just got a new Galaxy Note tablet that not only lets me write instead of type, but it actually recognizes cursive, so maybe I’ll use this tablet more than it’s Xoom predecessor. The Xoom has been passed along to my mom, much to her delight.  I’m really digging this tablet and am considering replacing my S4 with a Note when the time comes. (I think I’ve only got 648 months left on my contract, then I can upgrade.  Go me!)  I miss writing with a pen.  Fortunately for me, the tablet has some advanced software that can read my penmanship, despite the fact that I write like a second grader on his fifth Red Bull and Vodka.  Technology!

The situation with my mom was the last thing I posted about and I’m happy to report that things are going great on that front.  Mom is living in Tyler now and is adjusting as well as can be expected. The move to Texas has already proved to be practical several times just in the last month. She was hospitalized with pneumonia a few weeks ago, which may have ultimately been a good thing as I think she is FINALLY going to quit smoking!  (Yay, happy dance!)

Logan graduated from high school in June and has decided to attend UTD locally. (Yay, another happy dance!) He’ll stay at his Mom’s place during the week, so we’ll only see him on weekends. Bummer.

JT has decided to enlist in the Navy Reserves, which has garnered much pride from his Navy Grandma.  He has informed me that he’s expecting to go to boot camp in less than 2 weeks and I’m just not sure how I am going to cope when he’s gone.  For years and years I kept telling myself that I couldn’t wait to be an “empty nester,” but now, faced with the certain prospect of a quiet home, I’m seriously reevaluating my feelings on that subject.

Well that’s really all I can think of night now. I’m sure I’m forgetting dozens of equally fascinating things that have happened lately, but that’s all my poor mind can remember at the moment.

It was my idea, actually.  He’d asked me if he could dye his hair jet black and purple for the summer, so I suggested he go all the way and get a mohawk, too.  What the heck, right?  It’s just hair and it’s not like he’s going to be working this summer.  I figure he might as well get it out of his system now while he doesn’t have to look normal.   So today we did step 1, 1st bleaching of his hair.  We’ll be re-bleaching it again on Thursday since, after an hour with the bleach on, he ended up more yellow than white.  It has to be MUCH lighter to take the blue dye, so round two will come then.  Friday or Saturday we’ll add the blue, then the black, then take him to get it cut by a professional.  This mom doesn’t touch scissors.

TP: Illnesses and vacation

December 11, 2009

The boys have been sick off and on since school started.  We’ve had the flu, colds, pneumonia, various sore throats and the like, and for the past week one of them has been running a low grade fever every evening for about 4 days straight.  I think we’re going to start bulking up on the vitamin C and return to the smoothie-a-day routine again.  Need to get the blender fixed first and the X-box while I’m at it (before the warranty runs out!)  Glad I buy everything with extended warranties these days.

Best Buy has saved my behind on many occasions with their no-hassle warranty policy.  I was turned onto their policy by a coworker and can personally highly recommend it to everyone.  My favorite is their cell phone warranty.  If you buy a cell phone from them and get the geek-squad warranty, they’ll replace your phone with a NEW one instead of a refurbished one like Sprint does, and the fee is up front, not monthly…and there’s no $100 fee to pay when you have to replace it too.  That’s practically worth the price of the phone!

I’m on vacation for the next week.  I need it to get ready for the holidays.  God, they zap every little piece of life and joy out of me.  Seems counter to the goal of happiness it’s supposed to herald.  Oh well, it’s more of a marketing push anyway so whatever.  Just happy we’ve got a family, our jobs, a roof and food on the the table.

Well, I’m having a really hard time getting moving this morning, and wasting time here isn’t making matters any better.  Guess I’ll get going and join the world of the productive (the “out of bed productive” that is…I’ve already paid bills and cleaned up 3 email accounts in bed, so it’s not been a total wash!)

Happy fricking holidays.  Bah
